Sacred Season 2009 - A Multicultural Celebration of Peace
Teens from Interfaith Action’s Youth Leadership Program really wanted to find a way to continue the tradition of sharing “Sacred Seasons”, since Ramadan and the Jewish High Holidays and Navaratri won’t coincide again for another 32 years! (Watch what our Youth Leaders did when the celebrations coincided in 2007!)
On Sunday May 3, the teens orchestrated a community-wide “Sacred Seasons” festival in celebration of peace with the support of community volunteers. It began at the Sharon High gymnasium which was transformed into a multicultural festival site. The celebration culminated at Beech Tree Park with the dedication of a “peace pole”. This beautiful pole is located by the meditation labyrinth and shares the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in eight languages.
This festival provided a great opportunity for community members to get involved, with about one hundred and fifty people taking part. It was a fabulous day of community and peace building.
We gratefully acknowledge the successful efforts of the Youth Leadership Program “Sacred Seasons” team, the support and technical guidance from the Town of Sharon Department of Public Works and Sharon High School, as well as the financial support of the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation.
